This object for me would represent a cultural shift from China to America. This is a fork my Dad took from his first trip to America when immigrating from China with his family when he was 8 years old. To others this object might seem unimportant but for my Dad it’s a memory from when he was immigrating to America and starting on a fresh black page in a new life. This object can show memories of when my Dad first started his life here in America. He was born in a village in the Guangdong Province so it was a very big period in his timeline when he immigrated to America. Each person will be reminded of a different thing when viewing this item, and even though the object isn’t made of valuable materials, this holds lots of sentimental value for the person who has made memories with this item. Seeing my Dad handle this object with care and the memories that are sparked in his head, it makes me realize each time how important making notes and memories with important milestones or even a random point in your life to remember in the future when maybe your life has changed.
