My flag of Bangladesh.
My flag of Bangladesh.

The Bangladeshi Flag is not a just a flag made out of fabric, it means something special for my family and the people of our country. When I see the flag I start to remember the history of Bangladesh. One day, I went out with my family to celebrate my first Victory Day 16th of December). I went to different kinds of festivals and started to know more about my culture and traditions. I was having a fun day with my family. Suddenly, my mom saw a guy was selling small Bangladeshi flags. My mom bought one flag and gave it to me. I was wondering why she bought me one because I already saw my national flag before. She told me about her experience about the war between Bangladesh and Pakistan. When the fight was going on she was little. She used to listen to gunshots from far away or sound from other villages. She was scared about the war and she always used to stay with my grandmother. Some of the people she knew from other village, they died. The war started on 26th March,1971, which is also known as our Independence Day. The war ended on 16th December, 1971. The war lasted for around 9 months. Around 3 million people were killed during the war. After that, I started to learn about the history of Bangladesh. In our flag, the green represents the beauty of nature in Bangladesh and the red represents the sun rising, which means the beginning of something new and it also represents the people that died during the war. I started to learn the value of a flag. I still have that flag and whenever I see it I feel proud of my country.
