The award was bestowed upon several members of the financial managers for the military which included my father, Quy Nguyen. This is an important part of his immigrant story as it recognizes his achievements for his hard work within the business side of the Airforce. He had been born in Vietnam during the war with his father fighting the war. Their family decided they needed to leave around the time my father was in elementary school and he and all of his siblings became refugees. They came to the US with nothing and fought through several setbacks, like not being able to speak english, not knowing anyone, and racism to get to where they are. As my uncles and aunt now, they all have their own families and are very successful. This award is but another reminder to my father how hard he worked and a much needed symbol of recognition for his time in the Airforce in order to support me and my family.
