Our Family Farm

Farming has been a part of my family for at least five generations.  Where I currently live is part of the old farm that my great-grandparents owned.  They owned from what is now Back Road to Wolf Gap.  My other great-grandparents had a farm in Maurertown.  His farm was not as big, but he loved helping others plow their gardens.

I did not get to meet my great grandparents, but they showed my grandparents how to farm.  Unfortunately, when my great-grandmother passed away, the farm was split up among her children, and portions of the farm were sold.  Due to this, all of her children did not want to continue the farming tradition.

The love of farming and animals has been instilled in me from my dad and uncle.  My granddaddy has shown me many things throughout my life to help me learn about farming and makes me want to continue the tradition.   I began helping my uncle with animals when I was five years old.  I will go out to his farm and help feed, break, and move cows at his farm, Hat Angus.

I have always enjoyed helping my grandma and granddaddy in the gardens we have at the house.  I want to continue the tradition of my family farming, because it helps others, and I get to enjoy time with my family.   Farming is a good tradition to have because it gives values and good work ethic.  Farming is something that just does not help one family, but can help many.  With today’s world we need more people to be willing to help others.
