Young 22 year old working in the farm

In 1989 my mother immigrated to the United States from Mexicali, Baja California. My mom was the first one to come to Oxnard, CA with her boyfriend at the time. At the time she was pregnant with my older sister and my mom said she came to California to give my sister a better lifestyle and education. She then had my brother and two years later she had me. As a single mother struggling with no family here, she had to work to provide food and shelter for us. At the age of 21, my mom began to work as a farmworker because the was the only job she could get because she didn't know English. She didn't know what it was to work in the fields, but she managed to stay there to able to provide for us. Our first language was Spanish because that's what my mom knew. We learned English through school. This is a picture of my mother at only 22 years old working as a farmworker. This picture represents who we are now because she immigrated to the United States to give us a better life and education. My mom had dreams for us and her dreams came true. If it wasn't for her immigrating to this country I wouldn't have the education and the opportunities I have now. Thankful for my mother!
