Family Reunion
My grandmother, Donna Anderson, was born on May 30th, 1947 in Los Angeles, California to her parents (whose names are not specified). Her mother was born in Yorba Linda, California, and her father in Jalisco, Mexico who moved to the US for better opportunities. “Outgoing. Outdoors. Did not like indoors. Housework. Liked her garden. Had a green thumb.” She describes her mom. “Only had a 6th-grade education and always felt inferior to others and tended to assume they must be right.” The memories of her father weren’t as cherishable, unfortunately, as he wasn’t around often. “My dad was not in my life much. He played guitar. Mandolin. Liked to the garden. Had vegetables. Spoke mostly Spanish.” Most of her family comprised of many nationalities, many coming from Spain, Mexico, and even some German. Her family has a lot of traditions, but there’s one that stuck out more as it just happened not too long ago. Back in 2017, there was a family reunion in Los Angeles where family from all over the states and even from other countries like Mexico, came to visit.
She was happy to see her siblings and close cousins again and catch up with family, and it also took place in the same area where she went to school at Cal State LA.
