Family Recipes
My grandmother is a wonderful cook. Pictured are some of the recipes that she uses when cooking some of my favorite foods. Many of her recipes relate to our German heritage and have been passed down from generation to generation. It has become a tradition that my family makes these meals on holidays and special occasions. The cookbooks are very old, with yellowish torn pages and writing on the recipes themselves. My very favorite meal is Beef Stroganoff which I look forward to having on my birthday. My great-grandmother passed down this German recipe to my grandmother. When my grandma recently hurt her foot, my mom learned how to make these recipes to continue the tradition. When I walk into my grandmother’s house, I am hit with the amazing smells of food cooking. Once I walk in and see the silver Dutch Oven, I know that I am going to enjoy this dinner. I can always look forward to having Angel Food Cake or Spritz cookies to finish off the wonderful meal. When my grandmother makes these delicious meals, it represents a time of gathering and family coming together. Even though the recipes are so small, they have such a large meaning and play a very important part in my life.
