Photo Albums are important to my family because they're a physical way to keep track of our family's story and heritage. My grandparents traveled from Jamaica, and so looking through the photo album reminds me of their experiences and how far they've come. Even though we have phones now, having the photos physically makes it feel more nostalgic and feels more like a group activity. Having it physically seems to make it even more special because the majority, if not all, of the photos can't be accessed digitally because of the time they were taken, making it more valuable. It's different than all the photos that are being shared constantly in family group chats or images I can swipe through on my phone, having it physically forces me to slow down and take in as much of the photos as I can before the album is put away. Going through the photos helps me get closer to my family, every time I learn something new or have memories brought up that I'd forgotten about. So far, each time I've looked through it, I've learned something new. I always notice a new detail or come up with a new question. I also like that I can continue adding to the album as I get older and hopefully will add to it as I get older to share with my future family. It feels important to me that the photos were put together over time and are a collaborative project across relatives.
