This is a picture of a pair of earrings my mom’s aunt made for her. My mom is an immigrant from Romania, she immigrated to the U.S. as a kid with her parents. Her family applied for political asylum from a communist regime in 1990. My mom came to the U.S. without knowing English and would study her dictionary every night to become fluent. In Romanian culture girls get their ears pierced very young usually when they are infants. My mom got her ears pierced when she was only a few days old. This pair of earrings was one of her firsts and one of the few things my mom brought with her when she immigrated so they are very important to her.
