I chose dumplings because they represent a part of my culture and background. Dumplings were made in China, which is where both of my mom and dad’s families originate from. My parents both ate dumplings growing up and when they immigrated to the United States, and had my sister and I, they made it for us to eat while we were growing up. It’s still one of my favorite foods to eat to this day. There are so many types of dumplings you can eat because there are different combinations of meat and vegetables you can put inside a dumpling. During Chinese New Year, we would often make dumplings together as well, as in Chinese culture, dumplings represent wealth because of its shape being like an ancient Chinese gold ingot. Although, for me, the shape wouldn’t always turn out the best since you need good technique to fold it. My mom did teach me how to do it, but I'll need more practice if I want to perfect it. Making and eating dumplings together was a good way for us to bring family together while satisfying our stomachs at the same time.
