Kabyle Dress
Kabyle Dress
Story pending

My object is a kabyle dress. It is a type of traditional Algerian amazing robe often worn on family celebrations or cultural ceremonies. It is from northeastern Algeria. This object belongs to my aunt. It is made from silk and multi-colored yarn.

I chose this item because it is important to my aunt. What it teaches me about my culture is what the females in my family would wear on special occasions. As this dress connects to my aunt who used to wear the dress while she lived in Algeria before she brought the dress with her as she immigrated to the United States (she now moved to canada). She no longer wears the dress. The kabyle dress has been around for 4-5 centuries. This dress has been with my aunt for 14 years.

The question I have about this dress is where did my aunt buy the dress from? Also, how much was it and the story aka backstory behind the dress that I didn't find out like the occasions it was worn at?
