Dog tag
Although I never met my grandfather, this dog tag is still very special to me because it gives me a lot of information about him I never would have known. He served in World War II and the Korean War, but this dog tag is from World War II. The numbers under GARAFFA are his army serial number, the last time he got a tetanus shot- T45, and his blood type- A. The C in the bottom right is his religion- Catholic. My grandfather passed away at the very young age of thirty nine when my father was only eleven. He didn’t die in the line of duty, but this is really the only thing my father and I have to remember him. The dog tag represents his heart and his love for his family and for his country, and how he was willing to sacrifice everything to protect his family and his country. His parents came over to America from Italy, which shows how his family was new to this country, yet he was willing to risk his life for it. I never met my grandfather, but this dog tag gives me all I need to know about him- that he loved his country and was willing to sacrifice everything he had to protect it and his family.
