When I was younger, I would monthly get visited by my grandma who was from Mexico. Every time I would see her, she would bring home De La Rosa Mazapan candies. These remind me of her and how she would come to visit me and spend time with me. This time with her was invaluable because I did not see her as frequently as I wanted. Seasonally my grandma would travel up and down Mexico visiting other families as she would like to spend time and see everyone in the family. Similar to other Mexican citizen's experiences my family in Mexico struggled through similar struggles as the 20th century Mexicans. While visiting others in Mexico she would go on these trips alone because sadly as he passed away. Traveling all across Mexico brings a lot of different experiences my grandma would say. She would find how different areas in Mexico make different candies and how their culture differed from other cultures in Mexico. One thing was that she would always think of bringing something so when we got to spend time, she could tell me about it. It was a fun experience trying candies from all over Mexico but the ones that were my favorite were the De La Rosa Mazapan’s. These candies were peanut-based candies and they were always so sweet. Although now they are more accessible than ever in Southern California, it was always cool to know that the candy came from Mexico and was picked out by my Grandma. I will never forget how she would be so thoughtful and always bring something new for me to try. I’m thankful for that experience, and now whenever I see a De La Rosa Mazapan, I think of her.
