Dar al-Hajar
My object is called Dar al-Hajar which is one of the most famous houses in Yemen. Dar al-Hajar was built in the 1920s, and also is located at the Old City in Sanaa. Dar al-Hajar is part of my identity where it reminds me about back home. The Dar al-Hajar was given to me by my grandfather as a reminder to make us remember back home as part of my identity, and culturally. When me, and my family moved to the United States this Dar al-Hajar became one of the most important things we had, and we also had to make sure that it’s in a safe place. I would like to go back home, and visit Dar al-Hajar because when I was a little kid I visited it, and it was so beautiful, and one of the most beautiful places I had visited. Dar al-Hajar is a symbol of hope/freedom. I chose this object because it means a lot to me, and also it shows me where I came from, and what my identity is.
