Growing up with parents from different backgrounds is weird. You have so much to learn about your family, at least for me it is weird. My mother is from El Salvador and my father is from the Dominican Republic so when it came to family it always had to pick which one I wanted to go to. Whenever someone asks me about my nationality, I usually  say I am Dominican even though I am mixed. Growing up my mother made this one dish that is my favorite still to this day, which   is pupusas. Pupusas comes from El Salvador where my mom is from. And they're kind of like a tortilla but with cheese and meat in it and you eat them with homemade tomato sauce. The pupusas were first created  2,000 years ago from who we believe to be an Indigenous Pipil tribe who are called kukumuzin. My mom only makes them for special occasions like Christmas or thanksgiving, but I am grateful whenever she makes them because they're so good and I love them a lot. One other thing that my mom makes good is flan. My mother makes a mean flan! It is very good and I need to know how she makes it. Flan comes from all over the world so there’s not a country that really created it but if I had a guess it would be Spain but the way my mother makes it is very good and everyone from both family’s love her flans so that is another recipe that my mom makes very well. I remember when I was a kid, my mother and I used to cook together and used to record ourselves as if it were a cooking show. She was chef mommy and I was Max, but that one thing from my childhood that I miss.
