Christmas ornaments hold a very special place in our household, signifying traditions, family, and keepsakes. Ornaments remind me of decorating for Christmas and setting up our family Christmas tree. At a young age, my brother and I were each given a Hallmark ornament that was the beginning of or part of a series. Every year since then we have been given the ornament in our series, which both have an assigned place on the Christmas tree. Decorating the tree is a big deal in our house (partly because of how perfect my mom likes it to be) because it’s something we do together; it’s our tradition. When we lay out all the ornaments on the table before we put them on the tree we get to share different stories about our family. We look at the old ornaments from the beginning of my parent relationship, the children’s ornaments, the homemade, elementary school ornaments, the fancy glass ones from Disney World, and we remember exactly where each of them came from. As big of a deal as it is to decorate the tree and reminisce each year, it is as big of a deal to go on our annual trip to Hallmark each year. Picking out my ornament is special, and something I have done since I was little. I plan on carrying these traditions into my own family and with my own children someday.
