I am a mixing pot of different cultures. I come from French, English, Irish, German, and Native American heritages. So as you can see I come from a lot of different backgrounds. My great-grandfather was in the military, meaning that he and my great grandmother traveled around the world and never lived in the same place long until he retired. It seems like moving from place to place is common in my family.  I have lived in West Virginia, Virginia, Illinois, and then back to Virginia, all before third grade. The thing is, no matter where we went during the holidays, we would still have the same traditions. These traditions involved baking desserts.

During Christmas my favorite is the cookies that we make every year. My mother and I usually make these cookies two weeks before the holidays, and we have made it a tradition to eat at least half of the cookies before Christmas. Then we have to make more so there are enough cookies for everyone. Making cookies has been something that my mother did with my grandmother and great-grandmother, and  now it is something that we do together. Every year we try a new recipe, but there has been one cookie recipe that we always make during Christmas, which are the peanut butter kiss cookies. It was one of my dad’s favorites! Baking Christmas cookies with my mom holds a special place in my heart, and I enjoy doing it every year.
