Christinas world
my object was the famous artwork Christina's World by Andrew Wyeth. it was an artwork that was made in 1948 and has been engraved in my head for most of my life. it's my dads favorite artwork, and dissecting the story and gorgeous scenery of the work is so intriguing to me. I've always been fascinated with rural landscapes, especially farm and grasslands, it makes for great artwork. the story behind this piece is also fascinating, as Wyeth studied this woman that he stayed with in a getaway house in the country, she was disabled and was always distant from her family, hence inspiring "Christina". the artwork impacts me so deeply because it captures the eerie and vast dangers of landscape and scope, and how Christina is miniscule in comparison to her surroundings. she is seeming to crawl towards the house, which evokes a sense of fear but also wonder that i've never gotten from any other art piece. I'm not super artsy fartsy, but this artwork is great. it brings me closer to my relationship with my dad as well as understanding narrative through art. its significant to me because its helped me shape my ways of storytelling as a person who wants to pursue film. i would ask not only Wyeth, but the piece so many questions, primarily because of the wonder and sense of peril that looms over this piece, i want to know how Wyeth saw this character of "Christina" and formed a particular story from this woman.
