Ceremonial Cavalry Saber

Saber with sheath

The object is a ceremonial cavalry saber that was awarded to Lieutenant George F. Bashaw Sr., my great grandfather. The saber is made of steel and was a part of the lieut.’s uniform. My father told me about this heirloom and the stories behind it. We incorporate the saber into Veteran’s Day to help us remember the hardships of war. It is quite important to me because it is one of the greatest things my great grandfather earned. The saber is apart of our culture by showing what we have done in the past and what we did to be called American.
