Carnaval Dominico is a Dominican carnival that my father participated in dressed as diablo cojuelo (limping devils). He wore bright blue, white, and orange suits with horned masks. The santo domingo carnaval is the largest and most accessible national carnivals celebration in the Dominican Republic, featuring a grand parade along The Malecon in late February  or early March. Celebrations and local build-up parades take place throughout February, with the flagship National Carnival Parade (Desfile Nacional). This event is typically held on the final Sunday of February or the first Sunday of March to coincide with Dominican Independence Day.             Carnaval Dominicano is held as a sign of Dominican Independence and freedom. It is originally aligned with the religious pre-Lenten calendar brought by European colonizers. The carnival now peaks in February to coincide with Dominican Independence day as I stated earlier. The Dominican Carnival celebrates the rich cultural identity, history, and national independence of the Dominican Republic.
