Camp Banner
Every year since I was eight I have gone to Camp Takodah. At the end of every year of camp you receive a CT, a felt triangle with the number of years you've gone for two weeks.
My first CT is blue with no number because I only went for one week. We had tried multiple camps but none stuck. Finally, my sister found this one and I wanted to go too, but I had to wait; I was too young.
It was my first time doing sleepaway camp and I was so nervous, but the second I got there my counselors and cabinmates made me realise it was going to be just fine. Plus I knew my sister was always there if I felt homesick.
On the last day everyone pins their triangles to their shirts, and we take photos showing off our banners.
CT’s do so much more than just count how many years you've gone to camp. They remind me of how many memories i’ve made from my nine summers there. I’ve learned so much and met so many people that have changed who I am as a person.
They make me think about my sister and how we grew closer because of camp, also my friends that I don't see at home because we got the CT’s together.
No matter how many happy feelings they invoke for me, there is always a sense of nostalgia for my childhood that reminds me to live in the moment.
