Building Blueprints
When I visited my grandmother in Argentina this summer, she handed me a stack of my late grandfather’s blueprints to take home. We looked through them while she reminisced on their times together, and I got to learn more about my grandfather through her eyes. That moment and these blueprints are some of the greatest gifts my grandmother has given to me. My dad always tells me that we would’ve gotten along so well, and I wish I could’ve gotten to know him.
Ever since the first time I saw my uncle building a model, I've wanted to be an architect. My dad has told me about my family’s history with architecture and showed me buildings in Buenos Aires that were designed by my grandfather and great-grandfather. I immediately fell in love and felt a connection to my grandfather, which I cherished greatly. The reason these blueprints are so important to me is because they allow me to see into his intricate thought process with each calculated addition to his designs.
Four of the blueprints she gave me are of buildings he constructed and finished. However, one blueprint is of a project he was never able to carry out. One day I plan to see his final project through and continue his legacy.
