Buddha Jade Necklace
My family artifact is a necklace that has a red string with a jade picture of Buddha. Most of my family members wears this pendant. This family artifact is special and important to me because it reminds me of my culture and it was given by my mom. My mom gave this to me for good luck, happiness, and good health. There is a memory that I have when I was four or five years old. When my family first migrated to America they needed support and I can’t help them because I’m immature and doesn’t understand anything. The best they can do is to work and care for us. At the weekend I used to stay home with my sis, while they work. There is one time at night time, I hold onto my mom shirt hoping she won’t leave me but when I wake up. I was alone . I cried for a long time and holding the necklace that my mom gives to me. When I felt scared and lonely I used to hold onto this necklace and reassured myself. I don’t know that much of my culture because I was born here and my parents are busy. I sometimes questioned myself, “What am I? Who am I?”
