My object is a beer stein that was passed down to my mother from her father. While we don't know the exact origins of the cup, it is something that remains important to my family. My great grandparents immigrated from Germany when they were young so it is likely that it was something passed down from them. This stein was made in Germany and has a depiction of the mountainside on it. Escribed on the cup are the words "Auf der alm" and "ist es schön" which translates to "on the mountain pasture" and "is it already". While I am unsure of the exact reasons for my family's immigration from Germany, it is clear that this cup was important to them. I am hopeful that one day I might be able to visit the German countryside and learn more about my family's history and maybe see the mountains depicted on this cup.
