I am African American, daughter of 2 immigrants. I was born in Seattle but my parents were born in Somalia and were refugees that came to Seattle because of a Somali war. I didn't grow up around many Somali people except family, so it was normal for me to act normal around others but felt weird or not right when I  talk to people like me.
In the summer of 2022, me and my family went to another country called Kenya. Kenya is a country in Africa where both of my parents' family lived. 2 years later, my parents told me that I was leaving Kenya and was heading back to Seattle because I missed 6th and 7th grade because of my stay there. When I was told, I was excited and cheerful, but devastated when I had to leave cousins, friends, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. I had to leave them all. When it was time for goodbyes, my grandma gave me a Somali flag bracelet with my name on it as a goodbye. I still have it currently and rarely take it off. That bracelet summarizes my stay there, even though I hated it there because I was used to Seattle but family made it fun. I wear it everyday everywhere, that bracelet is my favorite accessory.
