Barnett's knife
My object is a World War II knife. I don’t know where it’s from but it’s most likely from the US Air Force. It was designed for people on planes fighting who needed a knife for many different reasons including cutting off parachutes once you're on the ground and fighting people once you're on the ground. My great-grandfather Barnett used it to teach soldiers how to use it. It’s made of carbon-steel and was issued from 1943 to 1945. I was named after Barnett (my middle name is Barnett).I chose the knife because it was the first thing that came to my mind. It teaches that my dad’s side of the family has lived in the United States for multiple generations and that my great-grandfather took apart in World War II. Barnett himself was not an immigrant but his parents immigrated from Pinsk (in Belarus). It was passed down to my grandma, then it was left in a basement for 30 years and sadly was never passed down to my dad and now it’s going to be passed down to me.One question I have for Barnett is why did you decide to teach people in World War II? While writing this I learned a lot of things I never knew about Barnett Pulik’s M3 trench knife like that he was a first generation american.
