My family belongs to the Church Of England, which is Christian, so my sister and I had Christenings. A christening is when you are baptized with holy water and then given a name as a sign of admission to the Church. It's traditional to wear a long white dress for christenings so my Grandmother wanted to use her wedding dress to make our dresses. It was made of satin and lace and felt smooth and silky. She sewed the dresses by herself on a sewing machine in her house. It took her about a week to make both dresses, and she made sure they were perfect. My grandmother hopes that we pass our dresses down to the future generations, as a new family heirloom.
