My object is called Ap-bong. Ap-bong is one of the tools that work for Korean Hand Acupuncture Therapy, called Sooji-Chim. Sooji means hand, and Chim means acupuncture in Korean. Sooji-Chim theory says that human’s hands represent the entire body. For this reason, people can treat illness or maintain their health even by themselves through stimulating the hand's nerve. Ap-bong has a soft-rounded top to press the point, so it doesn’t hurt at all when you stick onto your hands.
My mother learned Sooji-Chim in her 40s ages, then she became a teacher of Sooji-Chim. By the time she decided to learn, her physical strength had become weak. Even doctors didn’t know the reason why she was sick, so she had to protect herself. Not just teaching other people, my mother taught me Sooji-Chim as soon as I went to college. In fact, I didn’t feel the necessity to learn about it, because my mother always had been staying with me! After a few years, I left my home and then left Korea for my career. Every time I left, the only thing my mother wanted me to take was just Ap-bong in case I am sick alone. Now I slightly know why my mother taught me Sooji-Chim. So to speak, teaching me Sooji-Chim was like the thing that the final stage of raising her daughter. She always says you should keep your health when you are healthy. I want to raise my future child with Sooji-Chim and then teach them Sooji-Chim as their grandmother taught me, so they can leave home to anywhere as I have done.
