When my aunt was 20, she left her home in South Africa to travel around the world, and after ending up in New York my mother joined her when she was about 20, and they both worked for the consulate of South Africa to the UN for a year. Then my aunt started a catering business called Dine by Design, which my mom joined 3 years later. This went on for 7 years, when my mom realised she didn't want to do catering as a long term career, and after a few other jobs including doing more work in the restaurant business, where she met my other mom and they fell in love. Eventually she got recommended by a friend to try being a doula, so she studied and eventually helped my aunt give birth to her first child, which is when she realised that being a doula and helping with pregnancies was her passion, so she studied hard and became a doula, while at the same time, studied reflexology and also became a reflexologist. Working for years as a doula allowed her to build a good reputation with the doctors at the hospital she usually went to, and she got more and more clients as time went on, which allowed my mom to support herself and help take care of me with my other mom.
