The object that I chose to write about is a pair of earrings that my mother currently has after they had been passed down from older generations. They are made of 24 karat gold, and there is a ruby and a small diamond on each one of the earrings. The pair of earrings was purchased by my great great grandmother. She bought them for her daughter, my great grandmother, the day she turned 15 years old. When my great grandmother was about thirteen years old, during the Mexican Revolution of 1910, her mother gave her away to a general in exchange for food, money and other goods. Her and her mother still had contact with each other afterwards but she never knew any of her siblings. She got married to the general and they had a daughter who was my grandmother. The pair of earrings were eventually given to my grandmother, who gave them to my mother. My mother moved to the US after she got married to my father. She showed them to me after I asked her if there was anything I could use for this writing assignment. I think the object can be connected with my whole family in general because there are a lot of items and traditions that are passed down from generation to generation. This object is important because it’s very old and was around during historical events like the revolution. It also represents my older ancestors from previous generations and how my current generation is connected to them even if we have never met them.
