Curating our Community is an afterschool done in partnership with with the P.S. 1 Alfred E. Smith School in Chinatown and the Museum at Eldridge Street. For 10 weeks the 3rd and 4th grade students of P.S. 1 took on the role of Community Curators and dived into Lower East Side and Chinatown history. They virtually visited museums, historic sites and explored historic photos, postcards, oral histories and objects. They created art inspired by their neighborhood. Initially students were asked to share objects that they felt represented their community, but in the wake of the historic COVID-19 Global Pandemic, our curators chose to share objects that have brought them comfort and connection during this past year.
