turning stick

Relationship: Child of im/migrant

The turning stick which is known as the Omorogun in Nigeria is a traditional wood turning stick used when cooking and preparing starchy food. Instead of using metal turning sticks, people from Africa use these because they are hard to break and they don’t get hot while you use it. This stick also makes sure your food is consistently cooked on both sides. The omorogun is used in cooking African dishes like Eba, Fufu, and Pounded Yam. The omorogun turning stick makes cooking easier for me. It helps me turn heavy thing easier. It makes my food cooked on both sides and makes it more tasty. The Omorogun has been used in my family for up to 40 years because back then in Africa there weren’t any metal turning sticks so they made a wooden one. This is why the omorogun is very important to my family. Although my mother hits me with it sometimes it still has very valuable uses. This stick can be found in many Africans stores around the world.
