My Inca Rug

Relationship: Im/migrant

When I came from Peru in 2007, I missed my country. I tried to find something that reminded me of my roots. Two years later, when my mother decided to visit me, I asked her to bring me something from Cusco, the Capital of the Incan empire. She brought with her an Inca rug. The rug is made of alpaca fur, and represents the traditional art of our country. This beautiful piece of art enhances my living room.Living as an outsider is truly hard. The culture and food are different in many ways. But, even though I miss the relatives I left back home in Peru, I feel at home here now. My Inca rug connects me to my roots. I am grateful to my mother for having made my life here in the U.S. more comfortable!
