My grandmother was a wife, mother, but also a great cook. As a young child she loved helping her mother in the kitchen. As she grew older she later became the one in charged of cooking and took the responsibility after her mother and father (my great grandparents) moved to the U.S. in search of a better job. She later on married my grandfather a food lover who not only loved her dearly but also lover her food. She loved to cook for her husband and children and as time went on her passion for cooking was still very alive that despite her age she still cooked for her children and even grandchildren. She would always say that “A happy stomach happy heart” no one ever left her house without eating and that is something that everyone knew. No one ever complained about it because her food was delicious. One of her famous most recognised plates in the family was her mole, this dish was like no other. She would make the mole her main dish and beans and rice with salsa on the side. She use to say that her secret ingredient for this dish to come out to perfection was love. This griddle shown in the picture which is also known as a comal in Mexican culture was a big part of her passion for cooking. She used this griddle all the time and even now that she has passed it still continues to be used amongst our family today. This griddle does not only represent her passion but also her dedication and hard work.
