My grandmother's ring

Ring gifted to me by my grandmother.
Ring gifted to me by my grandmother.

Back in 2020, I decided to move to the U.S., when I shared my plans with my grandmother she smiled and said “My lovely girl, it is in your blood.” The day of my flight she came to me with a little box, when I opened it I saw a pretty ring. I asked who was this from and my grandma shared with me that it used to belong to her grandmother. Her grandmother lived in Spain and used to be a maid for a very wealthy family and just like a movie she fell in love with the man of the house she worked for. Unfortunately, he was not willing to abandon his family for her and made her leave the country. When they said their goodbyes he gave her this ring as an apology, she wanted to get rid of it but knew it was worth more than everything she had. Eventually, she gave the ring to her son and he gave it to my grandmother. She wanted to give it to me because for her it represented strong women that are not afraid to start from the bottom and that new lands don’t scare them.
