My special object is a basket and a fan. The basket and the fan were made in Mexico and I was given the basket from my family in Mexico.​Baskets and fans are popular gifts to give to family members in Mexico. That’s how I got my basket. My uncle that lives in Mexico mailed it to my mom my sister and me. Weaving is an important skill in Mexico. People would weave things such as rugs, baskets, and clothes.​What it teaches me about my culture is that people did a lot of weaving in Mexico. My culture uses a basket and a fan like you use a basket and a fan here in the U.S. You could use the basket to put jewelry inside. Also you could use the fan on really hot days.The basket is special to me because it’s the first gift that i got from Mexico. I have never been to Mexico so it gives me a chance to experience the culture.Other information you might want to know about the basket and the fan is that the basket and the fan is weaved. Also the flower on the basket and fan is made out of tamale leaves. Last but not least, on the fan, the part where you hold the stick might trick you. You might think it’s Bamboo, (the plant not the monkey) but it’s actually sugarcane!The fan and basket is important to me because it’s the very first gift I got from Mexico. I have never been to Mexico, so it gives me a chance to experience the culture. These objects remind me of my background and where my family came from.
