Lotus Leaf

The lotus leaf has been used as a Guyanese tradition for many years. People often eat food in it and they also eat with their hands. In Guyana, the economic condition people were in made them unable to obtain essentials such as plates, utensils, clothes, etc. As a result of this, people began to eat in these lotus leafs and the tradition has been passed down throughout time regardless of economic standards. As Guyanese society progressed people began to afford essentials however, they still enjoyed eating in these lotus leaves because of the simple tradition and it also because of how it brought people together and how fun it was. Moving to America meant that my family and I had to leave a lot of our traditions in our country, including the tradition of eating in these lotus leaves. The only time we have this experience if when people from our country come to America to visit and bring for us.
