Irish Doll

My great grandmother lived in Ireland with her family four generations ago. Although I never had the opportunity to meet her, she had passed down this doll to her daughter, my grandmother. To pursue a better life, my grandmother had immigrated overseas as a first generation American. My grandmother had brought her mother’s doll with her not only to keep a memento of her family with her while settling in a new place, but to share with her future children the image of a typical Irish woman from her childhood. My grandma kept this doll for decades and passed it onto her children too. She lived in Brooklyn with her five children however when she passed away in 2001, my aunt had decided to keep this doll that has been apart of our family all the way from Ireland. My aunt has this doll in her house to this day to represent our family’s Irish culture and I feel very fortunate to have learned more about my family’s history while completing this project.
