Gold Pendant

At the mere age of 16 my mother embarked on a journey to America. She left everything behind in Mexico, from her country to her family, in hopes of finding a better life. As my mother was getting ready to leave, my grandmother gave my her a gold pendant as a symbol of hope and prosperity. The pendant is two sided with the face of Jesus on one surface and the Virgin Mary on the other. It was a gift to my mom to show that, no matter what, my grandmother would always be with her through the good times and the bad.

While my mother was adjusting to life in America, a few thousand miles away a tragedy had struck, my grandparents had passed away. Then, more than ever, the pendant meant so much to my mother because it was one of the last things she remembers of my grandmother and she will forever treasure it. Whenever my mother is feeling down or wants to go down memory lane, she takes out the pendant to remember her parents. My mother plans to pass it down for generations to come. This pendant has a rich history within my family, and as generations come and go they will always know the story behind it.
