Gold Anchor Necklace

My whole life my grandma has been my ultimate inspiration. Even starting from when I was little, I was always known for being sensitive and emotional. But, my grandma never failed to cure my sadness; pouring sugar into my wounds, and drowning the bitterness with creamer. I began to realize my whole life my grandma had unintentionally poured little bits and pieces of herself into me, and it all started from a simple gold necklace. As she lived her whole life in the city of Dasol, Philippines, she had to ensure my connection with the ocean was just as strong as hers. The culture of my family in the Philippines, consisted of constant hard work - even through long hours on your feet in uncomfortable weather, as well as truly embracing your authenticity. At the age of eight, we were sitting on the beach and she gifted me a real gold necklace with an anchor and infinity charm attached; which I’ve taken off my neck less times than I can count on one hand. This simple charm symbolizes more than just my family’s connection to the ocean, but also how my grandmother is truly the anchor that holds the family and our culture together. This unblemished adoration I have for my grandma and my necklace has truly kept me tied to my family's culture and roots, even being thousands of miles apart.
