Embroidered Pillow

This pillow is a little heavy with a soft texture. It smells like my grandmother's house and had very carefully orange embroidered flowers on it, it is made of soft white fabric. You can barely see the stitches in the pillow because my grandmother put so much effort with very precise and very small stitches.

My grandma Maria Rodrigues, (I call her Avó) made this pillow while she was a maid after immigrating from Portugal. She made it knowing it would be for her eldest granddaughter (she somehow knew I was coming) she spent hours and hours on it. Anytime that she had free time from work she would sit down with some family and work on the pillow, talking and laughing all the while.  You can tell how much effort was put In. For my little sister, she will make another embroidered object, such as a Bible cover, stockings or bag. This pillow was given to me on September 30th, 2019, my grandma said after she gave it to me, “I want you to keep this for generations, to remember me when I'm gone.”  I love her so much and this beautiful pillow leaves her legacy to show her careful and kind spirit.
